According to a global study by Transparency International, Enel is the best utility at fighting corruption, offering transparent management and reporting in various countries.

Rome, July 13th, 2012 – Enel ranks first among utilities in transparency of management and in the fight against corruption, according to Transparency International, the non-governmental organisation that draws up an annual ranking of the 150 largest listed companies based on their commitment in enacting anti-corruption rules. Norwegian oil company Statoil heads the general list with 8.3 points, while Enel ranks first among Italian companies and 20th overall, with 6.2 points. According to the same study, Enel is also the top-ranked utility, being placed in a significantly higher position than other companies from the same sector.

Enel’s rating was excellent in all the three variables making up the total score (anti-corruption programmes, transparent management and reporting in various countries). Specifically, the Enel Group obtained a 100% performance at governance transparency level. The criteria used to produce the rating are: accessibility of information, transparency in the management of business activities, availability of information on management and the amount of information provided by companies for each country in which they operate.

Enel's commitment to fighting corruption stems from its Zero Tolerance of Corruption Plan, adopted in 2006. The Plan, along with the Code of Ethics and Compliance Model, applies to all Group companies in the 40 countries in which the Group operates with the aim of identifying and promoting actions in the social arena, such as educating its staff on respect for the law and accountability. Specifically, the Plan is designed to meet the commitments made by the Group as a member of the Global Compact LEAD, the United Nations programme that encourages companies to adhere to principles relating to human rights, labour protection and safeguarding the environment. Employees are required to act in accordance with the principles of honesty, transparency and fairness in carrying out their work. These same commitments are also required to all stakeholders involved in company activities, suppliers in particular.
