ENEL GREEN POWER NORTH AMERICA AMONG 5 GEOTHERMAL OPERATORS SELECTED AS PREFERRED BIDDER BY THE U.S ARMY

Enel Green Power North America (EGP-NA) has been selected by the U.S. Army, along with 4 other players, to bid for Power Purchase Agreements using geothermal technology.

Boston-Rome, May 9th, 2013 -- Enel Green Power North America (EGP-NA) is among the five companies awarded with the right to bid for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) using geothermal technology aimed at supplying the U.S. Army. Only those five pre-selected companies will be invited to take part to future bids.

The decision has been taken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, AL, working with the Army Energy Initiatives Task Force (EITF), that awarded the first of its kind Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Multiple Award Task Order Contracts (MATOC).

The MATOC will be used to procure reliable, locally generated, renewable energy through PPAs over a period of approximately 30 years from renewable energy plants that are designed, financed, constructed, operated and maintained by private companies. A list of preferred bidders will expedite the acquisition process for future projects and will speed up overall development timelines to ensure the best value to both the Army and the private sector.

Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power commented ”Being a pioneer in geothermal energy production, Enel Green Power is permanently committed to implementing new initiatives to strengthen our role abroad as the world’s undisputed leader in the geothermal energy sector. Being selected by the U.S. Army now is a clear step in that direction. We are excited to have been given the chance to support the U.S. Army’s efforts in achieving their clean energy goals.”

Worldwide Enel Green Power has 770 MW of net installed geothermal capacity and produces about 5.5 TWh annually. In North America the company is operating the Stillwater and Salt Wells Geothermal Projects near Fallon, Nevada. The two plants use one of the most advanced binary cycle technologies with average enthalpy currently available. The Stillwater Geothermal Project was combined with the 26 MW Stillwater Solar Project, making it the world’s first geothermal-solar hybrid project of its kind. At present EGP-NA is constructing another geothermal power plant in the United States that uses this state of the art design – the Cove Fort Geothermal Project in Utah.

These contracts are part of the Department of Defense’s goal of achieving a 25 percent production and consumption of energy from renewable sources by 2025
