ENEL STARTS PRODUCTION AT 97 MW CARRERA PINTO PV PLANT IN CHILE

  • Carrera Pinto is capable of generating more than 260 GWh per year

  • Enel invested approx. 180 million US dollars in the construction of the new plant

Rome, August 16th, 2016 – Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Chile Ltda. ("EGPC"), has completed and connected to the grid its PV solar park Carrera Pinto, located 60 kilometres from the city of Copiapó in the Atacama Region of Chile.

The new solar plant has an installed capacity of 97 MW and can generate more than 260 GWh each year, equivalent to the annual consumption needs of around 122,000 Chilean households, while avoiding the emission of more than 127,000 tonnes of CO2 per year into the atmosphere.

Enel invested approximately 180 million US dollars in the construction of the project, in line with the Group’s strategic plan. The investment was financed through Enel’s own resources.

Carrera Pinto is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), and the power generated by the plant will be delivered to Chile’s Central Region Transmission Network (Sistema Interconectado Central, SIC).

In the Atacama Region, an area blessed with excellent solar resources, EGPC operates the PV facilities Chañares and Diego de Almagro as well as Carrera Pinto. The Chañares plant has an installed capacity of 40 MW and is capable of generating up to 94 GWh a year while the 36 MW Diego de Almagro facility is capable of generating up to 80 GWh a year.
