Sustainability Report shows Enel's CSR efforts

Enel's Sustainability Report, a document that measures the company's corporate social responsibility activities from an economic, ethical, social and environmental point of view, is now in its eleventh year of publication.

The Group's transparent and accurate CSR report has earned it a top marks A+ ranking from Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) for the eighth year in a row. The document also qualified as GC Advanced in the Communication on Progress standard of the United Nations Global Compact.

The 2013 Sustainability Report analyses how the company's strategic positioning aligns with stakeholder expectations. The priorities for 2013 included the transparency of governance, the creation of economic value, the development of renewable energy and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Priorities that carried over from 2012 include energy efficiency, the development of smart networks and quality services for customers. A stronger focus is also being placed on the creation of shared value and issues of social inclusion, such as respect for human rights, responsible relationships with communities and access to electricity through Enabling Electricity. Thanks to this programme – which offers further proof of Enel's commitment to the United Nations' ten-year Sustainable Energy for All project – in 2013, more than 30 projects were carried out in 20 countries, benefitting over two million people.

The Sustainability Report also illustrates the business' annual progress in terms of human rights, working practices, anti-corruption and protection of the environment. Enel's efforts in achieving the highest sustainability standards have been rewarded by the growing interest of socially responsible investment funds, who as of the end of last year represented 15,6 percent of institutional shareholdings, an increase on 2012
