Enel has won the Platts 2016 award for the Industry Leader Award Power category. In the energy industry, this contest is considered the equivalent of the Academy Awards for the movie industry.
During the ceremony that was held on December 8 in New York, the independent panel of judges awarded this prestigious accolade to the group run by Francesco Starace for its ability to anticipate changes in the industry in its strategic plan and for the leadership it has exhibited in innovation and sustainability. Considering that 50% of the energy generated by the Group is carbon-free, the panel reasserted Enel's standing among the world’s clean energy leaders.
“The acknowledgement of our leadership in the electricity industry reflects our efforts over the last two and a half years to transform Enel into an Open Power company which is innovative, sustainable and future-oriented”, commented Enel CEO Francesco Starace. He went on to say, “This award recognises the hard work and commitment of all our colleagues in over 30 countries. Without them, none of these achievements by the company would have been possible. This award is dedicated to them”.
The criteria used by the judges to examine the over 200 companies nominated for the Platts Award 2016 included company profile, financial results, innovation, operational excellence, safety and security of both workers and communities and strategic vision. In particular, the panel appreciated Enel's pioneering spirit and ambitious goals, as well as its commitment to sustainability. The judges were also impressed by its ability to digitise the grid in both mature and emerging markets and to be “farther along than others”, as in the case of its groundbreaking battery aggregate technology used for the first Nissan-Enel V2G hub opened in Denmark in 2016.
The Platts Global Energy Award, now in its 18th year, is open to all energy producers, utilities, integrated producers, grid operators and regional market operators. This year, nominations were received from more than 25 countries, among which Brazil, India, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Argentina, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, United Kingdom and United States.
