What's your power?

Each and every one of us has potential to fulfil. We are asking one question in order to understand people’s personality, potential, and creativity: “What’s your power?” is the beginning of a new relationship with the client

Energy is everywhere: in the air, in the light, in things and in people. Everyone has their own energy, their own power.

Open Power is the idea that has inspired us in recent years: opening access to energy to more people, opening the world of energy to new technology, opening energy to new uses, opening the management of energy to the people who use it, and opening up to more partnerships. We are Open Power so we can face up to some of the world’s biggest challenges.

Today we have taken another step forward, beginning with one simple question: What’s your power?

Every one of us has the potential to fulfil, an ambition, a dream. With one open question we’re trying, first of all, to understand people’s personality, potential, and creativity: “What’s your power?” is the beginning of a new relationship with the client.

Advanced and digital

Supplying electricity is just the first step. We are much more than that: from smart meters that enable customers to optimise their consumption (according to their needs) to integrated packages for street lighting and lighting for artistic heritage, from smart agriculture powered by renewable forms of energy and supported by electric vehicles and drones, to smart grids and energy management services such as demand response. Each client has their own energy system.

The smart cities of the future that we contribute to creating are efficient, connected, powered by clean energy and based on the Internet of Things and sustainable mobility.

At the heart of everything is digitalization, one of the cornerstones of our innovation: what we are doing could be described as creating the Internet of Energy.

Sustainable mobility

We are convinced that electric transport is efficient, sustainable and affordable. For this reason we are promoting technological development projects in collaboration with automobile manufacturers, practical initiatives to create and extend infrastructure networks for public and private smart recharging, like the new WallBox home station. We are also lined up at the front of the grid with Formula E and Moto E, both as a partner and supplier of innovative technology to these electric motorsport championships.

Clean energy

Environmental sustainability is an absolute priority and renewable sources are at the centre of our activities. Depending on the climatic and geographical contexts we take full advantage of the diverse resources of clean energy available: from geothermal energy to wind power, from hydroelectric to photovoltaic, to the futuristic plants that combine different sources such as the geothermal-solar system in Stillwater, Nevada.

We are always looking to the future: by 2050 we want the Group to be fully carbon neutral because we believe that the first way to focus on people is to protect the environment in which they live.

Social sustainability

Environmental sustainability is not the be-all and end-all, however. Our attention to social progress also means valuing the power of people, improving the living conditions of the communities in which we operate and providing access to energy in the more isolated areas, for example with the projects Liter of Light in South Africa and Barefoot College in Central and South America.

In the name of social sustainability we have adopted an approach based on participation: the local communities are not just spectators but are involved in the decision-making process from the very start. This dialogue is dictated by the desire to value the potential of everyone, the power of every individual.

In order to promote sustainable development we are working in close contact also with the United Nations Global Compact, with SE4ALL and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to achieve the shared goals of sustainability, concerning both the environment and the social dimension. We are committed to providing a tangible contribution to the achievement of four of the 17 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) concerning access to energy, quality education, the socio-economic development of the communities in which we operate and the fight against climate change.

We support the circular economy in all of its forms, for example with ambitious projects such as Futur-e that is reconverting 23 thermal power stations in Italy and giving them a second life.

Sustainability will not develop without continuous innovation and for us innovation is meaningless unless it is oriented towards sustainability.

And just as sustainability does not only concern the environment, innovation is not limited solely to technology. Innovation is every creative idea, every improvement in our lives, every contribution that arrives from the energy of any willing individual. Our way of communicating is through dialogue – a dialogue that begins with one question: What’s your power?
