Green Bonds
Since 2017, Enel has issued three Green Bonds for a total amount of 3.5 billion euros. Enel prepared and published a new Green Bond Framework in November 2018, which was updated following the presentation of the 2019-2021 Strategic Plan, to facilitate transparency and the commitments made by the Group with regard to Green Bonds.
Under this updated framework, the eligible green projects of the Enel Group were identified in accordance with the "Green Bond Principles" published by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). More specifically, these eligible green projects included, for example, projects for the development of renewable generation plants, the construction and management of transmission and distribution networks, smart metering systems, the development of sustainable mobility projects, and demand response initiatives.
Enel’s Green Bond Framework was reviewed by Vigeo Eiris. Enel’s Green Bond Committee set up in 2017 oversees the implementation of the Green Bond Framework and the process of allocating the proceeds of Green Bond issues.
