According to data from the Energy Services Manager, in 2024, renewable energy sources accounted for 51.8% of total national electricity production. Historically, hydroelectric power has been the primary renewable energy source in Italy. However, in June 2025, photovoltaics surpassed the 37.5% mark set by hydroelectric power, reaching 42.6%. These were followed by wind power at 9.1%, biomass at 7.7%, and geothermal energy at 3.1% (TERNA data).
