San Isidro is the first plant in Chile to obtain the energy efficiency certificate, due to its efficient use of energy supplies, energy savings in generation processes and the development of activities in line with the Enel Group's energy efficiency policy.
This certificate is given by the Chilean Energy Ministry to businesses that distinguish themselves for energy efficiency in their production processes, adopt energy efficiency policies, establish annual efficiency objectives, and develop indicators that demonstrate their efficient use of energy resources.
This certificate is an important acknowledgement for the Enel Group and according to Endesa Chile CEO Ramiro Alfonsín confirms 'the company's commitment to promoting processes that respect the environment, the communities and areas it works in by applying cutting-edge solutions to each of our energy developments'.
The San Isidro combined cycle facility – which is located in Quillota and includes the 379-megawatt San Isidro I and the 399MW San Isidro II facilities – is also currently in the implementation and certification stages of the Energy Management System that will help it achieve the ISO 50001: 2011 international standard. The plant is expected to be certified by the end of the year.
In Chile the Enel Group has a net installed capacity exceeding 6.6 gigawatts and net generation of 20 terawatt-hours. Over the last few months, Enel Green Power has completed and grid-connected the Taltal wind farm, its largest in the country, has started building both the Lalackama II PV solar facility and the Talinay Poniente wind farm. Additionally, together with DCNS, it will build the country's first marine energy research centre.
