Enel putting cities in a new light

{{item.title}}

With more than 3.5 million light points Enel is the world's major public lighting operator, a leading role that originates from over a decade of experience, first in Italy and then elsewhere in Europe such as Spain and Slovakia, before expanding to Latin America with Bouzios in Brazil and Santiago in Chile.

Enel's leadership is based on a combination of technology and energy efficiency that brings together cutting-edge solutions like LED installations with execution, management and control systems that fully integrate street lighting into the distribution grid, in line with smart grid approach and bringing economic, environmental and social benefits.

Enel offers a street lighting global service that gives local authorities, institutions and private bodies all the skills necessary to satisfy the diverse needs that arise across the different stages of operations:

  • Planning
  • Execution
  • Remote control
  • Management

Enel's street lighting meets sustainability requirements for urban centres and, thanks to smart technology, enables the introduction of value-added services for consumers. Remote control and management systems for data collected by lights allow the use of street lights not only for illumination but also as a monitoring system that gathers information on traffic, weather and environmental conditions.

The 'light for art' slogan is the symbol of Enel's ability to make the most of new technologies, skills and expertise and combine them with respect for the environment, energy efficiency and savings. However, this culture and care of beauty is not limited to Italy but is present across the Group: Endesa has illuminated several of Spain's artistic jewels, and together with Enel Sole it created a new lighting system at the royal palace of the Alcazar in Seville.

Energy at the service of beauty is a concept that's also at the heart of a number of projects in Latin America, where over the years Group businesses have promoted artistic lighting projects. These include Edelnor's Lima Ciudad de Luces, which involves all of the major historic buildings in Peruvian capital Lima, and the Iluminando Monumentos al Sur del Mundo programme carried out by Enersis, Endesa Chile and Chilectra, which since the year 2000 has lit more than 50 buildings, including churches and civic buildings, across Chile.
