They are bonds like all other bonds. The only difference is that they are designed to finance projects that have a positive environmental and/or social impact. That is the objective of the Enel green bond listed on the Italian Stock Exchange from March 13. It also marks the opening of a new segment of Borsa Italiana dedicated to green finance.

In trading on ExtraMOT PRO, it is the largest green issuance among those at European level. Issued by Enel Finance International N.V., it is guaranteed for a total value of €1.25 billion, with annual coupons equal to 1.00 % of the nominal value and maturity date on 16 September 2024. The bond is reserved for institutional investors.

The transaction is in line with the financial strategy outlined in the Group’s 2017-2019 Strategic Plan, which provides for the refinancing of €12.4 billion including through the issuance of green bonds as instruments for financing projects related to the transition towards a low carbon economy.

For some time now, we have undertaken specific initiatives in line with the commitment to contribute to achieving 4 of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launched by the United Nations in September 2015. Specifically, these are: SDG 4 (quality education), 400,000 beneficiaries by 2020; SDG 7 (clean and affordable energy), 3 million beneficiaries by 2020, especially in Africa, Asia and Latin America; SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), 1.5 million beneficiaries by 2020 (compared to the initial 500,000); SDG 13 (climate action), reduction of emissions to <350gCO2 eq/KWh by 2020.
