The electric mobility solutions of Enel come ashore in the ports belonging to the Italian Ports Association

  • The plan provides for the installation of 300 electric vehicle charging stations in the areas managed by Italy’s 15 port authorities

  • Enel X will handle applications for concessions in the selected areas together with the authorities, as well as the connection, management and maintenance of the charging infrastructure

Rome, July 19th, 2018 – Fostering the development of electric mobility through the creation of a comprehensive and modern charging infrastructure that adapts to customer needs: with this objective, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Enel X, the Enel Group division devoted to innovative products and digital solutions, and the Italian Ports Association (Assoporti), which brings together the port authorities of the Eastern Adriatic Sea (Trieste). The agreement provides for the installation of around 300 charging stations at national-level ports. The stations will be available for public use and will offer a multi-vendor recharging service, enabling the customers of any operator to top up.

Enel X will move ahead with the applications for concessions in suitable areas, which will be selected together with the port authorities. Subsequently it will handle the installation, activation and maintenance of the charging stations. This is another important step in the implementation of Enel’s plan for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, which envisages the installation of about 7,000 stations by 2020 to reach a total of 14,000 by 2022, with an investment of between 100 and 300 million euros. The charging network will consist of Quick stations (22 kW) in urban areas and Fast (50 kW) and Ultra Fast (150 kW) stations for fast charging in extra-urban areas. The urban charging network will complete the extra-urban system financed by the EVA+ project (Electric Vehicles Arteries), co-funded by the European Commission, which provides for the installation, in three years, of 180 charging points along extra-urban routes in Italy. In 2018, over 2,500 charging stations will be installed throughout the country.

Electric mobility is proving successful not only in large urban centres: with this agreement it becomes an important tool for those who want to use electric vehicles to go on holiday. With this agreement, it will be possible to recharge your vehicle before heading off to a tourist destination or before returning home”, said Alessio Torelli, Head of Enel X Italia. “We are very pleased with this partnership, which enables us to bring our technology to the docks of major Italian ports.”

The Association has been focusing on the sustainability of ports, promoting research and studies in this area. This memorandum of understanding brings this effort into the field, with targeted actions at ports to encourage the use of electric cars. I am very pleased with the signing of this accord, because it will spark a process of environmental renewal”, remarked Zeno D'Agostino, President of Assoporti, on the occasion of the signing of the memorandum.
