Enel and SiderAlloys, together for an increasingly sustainable production model in Sardinia

  • Protocol signed for the development of renewable energy for Sardinia and electrification solutions at the Portovesme production site

Rome, February 16th, 2022 - Joint initiatives in areas of strategic interest, focusing on the creation of a more sustainable model for Sardinia through the development of renewable energy: this is the content of the memorandum of understanding signed by Enel Italia Director Nicola Lanzetta and SiderAlloys Italia CEO Giuseppe Mannina. The partnership identifies different areas of collaboration with SiderAlloys of Portovesme, which share the objective of contributing to the energy transition through a production model that is increasingly sustainable for the whole territory.

“The collaboration with SiderAlloys Italia enables us to strengthen our commitment to increase the use of energy from renewable sources in production activities,” said Nicola Lanzetta, Director Enel Italia “Achieving a more sustainable industrial model means obtaining environmental and economic benefits at the same time, in line with Enel’s global strategy and its goal of making Sardinia a ‘green island’ by 2030.”

“The agreement with Enel aims to promote the broadest possible joint initiatives to develop sustainable solutions within the broader path of decarbonization and electrification of Sardinia in line with the new European industrial policies that are attuned to the SiderAlloys group which in Enel has found the right reliable partner,” said Giuseppe Mannina, CEO of SiderAlloys Italia.

The agreement provides in particular for the development of electricity generation from renewable sources (wind power, photovoltaic systems on ground utility scales, on roofs and covers in general, and storage systems), which will contribute to the energy needs of the Sardinian territory and industrial sites; the possibility of developing further renewable distributed generation initiatives; electrification of the company fleet with charging stations to be installed on company premises; the identification of flexible resources within the production sites; solutions aimed at optimizing energy costs such as reducing power peaks and reducing charges by varying loads.
